Whether you are creating an online portfolio or a hard copy profile you can show in person to potential agencies, It is very important to emphasize on creating an impressive modeling portfolio because it is what sells you when you are looking for model jobs. Designers judge your overall appearance by looking at your portfolio. It is the primary thing that clients look at before they even choose to see you in person. Therefore a good portfolio is crucial to allow you to start a successful career as a model. Here are some tips that can help you make an impressive portfolio.
Your portfolio should consist of photos that are taken by a professional photographer. As your career progresses, you can keep on adding new photos to your portfolio. The portfolio must contain a variety of photographs such as head shots, full length photographs, action shots and different poses as well as clothing styles and hair styles. Your portfolio should contain at least 15 to 20 photographs.
No specific rules on the type of photos that should be included in a portfolio, but having a straight to camera head shots and some less photo shopped pictures are necessary, especially you need an eye contact to generate interest. There should be no other person feature in your portfolio except you, to keep the attention focus on you. Groupies, selfies, party pictures or showing offs some muscle are not appropriate pictures for a modeling portfolio as it only prove you don’t take the job seriously. This limit your chances in the model industry and may be one of the reasons you don’t get a call back when you apply for jobs. We have had the opportunity to review many models photos and some of the samples below is not good for any model professional image, we strongly advise not to include it.
Your modeling portfolio should only consist of your best photos only. Discard all the “bad” photos. Place the strongest photos first in order to leave a good impression on the client from the beginning. People naturally tend to look to their right first while flipping through a portfolio therefore putting your photos on the right side of the page will naturally draw their attention to that picture. Quality is more important than quantity!
